Mercer County, WV Calendar of Events: August 2017

There’s so much going on in Mercer County in Augustus 2017! When you stay at Four Wheeler Heaven, you get so much more than direct access to world-class riding: you also are close to special events nearly every weekend that are fun for the whole family. Below is Mercer County’s calendar of events for August 2017:

August 4-5: The Mercer County Fair will feature vendors, exhibitors and many kid’ activities. There will be a rodeo on Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 4 p.m. The fair concert series kicks off at 1 p.m. on Saturday with acts such as Chosen Road, The Church Sisters, Clinton Collins, LuLu Roman and Tim White & The VW Boys from the PBS show “Song of the Mountains.” Gates open at 8 a.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for kids. Children 5 and under are admitted free as well as military, fire, police, and EMS when presenting an official ID. The fair is at the PikeView High School grounds.

August 5: The RailYard in Bluefield celebrates their three-year anniversary with Fuel on Fire out of Key West, Florida. They will take the stage at 9 P.M. There will be food and drink specials and no cover.

August 5: The Fast Track Triple Crown will be at the Princeton Speedway, off 1-77. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the race starts at 7 p.m. General admission is $15 and children are free.

August 12: The Princeton Speedway is hosting the 7th annual UBB 29 Miners Memorial Race. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the race kicks off at 7 p.m. General admission is $15 and kids get in free.

August 12-15: The Princeton Rays host the Bluefield Blue Jays in the final four games to determine the winner of this year’s Mercer Cup. Come out to Hunnicutt Stadium and root for your favorite team in one of baseball’s most famous rivalries. Game time is 7 p.m., on all four nights.

August 13: The Athens-Concord town social will be on the front lawn of Concord University in Athens from 1 p.m- 4 p.m. There will be live entertainment, food vendors, craft booths and many children’s activities.

August 19: Cool Cruisin’ Nights return to Mercer Street in Princeton from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Check out classic cars, muscle cars and hot rods as they cruise down Mercer Street. There will food vendors. Bring a chair.

August 25: Come watch one of the greatest rivalries in High School sports at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield as the Bluefield Beavers take on the Graham G-Men of Bluefield, Va. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

August 26: The Greenbrier Valley Theater presents “The Marvelous Wonderettes” at the Chuck Mathena Center. This heartfelt musical explores life through the hits of the 60s and 70s. Tickets are $20 and the show starts at 7 p.m.

August 26: The 5th Annual Lemonade Festival will celebrate Bluefield’s tradition of lemonade days. The festival is free and kicks off with a parade through downtown Bluefield at 10 a.m., Throughout the day the Historic Depot district will feature many children’s activities, musical performances, a lemon hunt, pie eating contests, food and craft vendors as well as free lemonade.

August 26: The Bluefield Blues Festival will be on Commerce Street from 3 p.m.-9 p.m. There will be food and beer vendors and of course, live music. Lineup includes Bullfrog Willard McGhee, Teddy Steele & Steele Cookin Band, Jonathon Boogie Long, Billy Crawford and the headliner Steady Rollin – Bob Margolin. Tickets are $12 and available at Grant’s Supermarket or on Eventbrite.
